The first annual playoff “Beard-a-thon” (www.beardathon.com) has already raised over $300,000 for NHL team charities during the first two rounds of the 2009 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Across the nation, over 7,000 hockey fans have dropped their razor and picked up the cause.

Currently, the Boston Bruins lead all teams with over $93,000 raised for the Boston Bruins Foundation. One of the top fundraisers nationwide is Dropkick Murphys’, Ken Casey. Ken has raised $17,000 for his beard heroics.

Message from Ken: “Well folks it was a heartbreaker…but a great season all in all. We’ll get em next year! Thanks to everyone for helping my beard raise over $17,000 for the kids….amazing. Thanks so much for your help. GO B’s …and Go Blackhawks (my second choice).”
